Local MP joins in school's celebrations

Date: 10 July

MP Eddie O'Hara - With pupils from St Mary's and St Paul's in Prescot

Local MP Eddie O’Hara was a welcome guest at St. Mary and St. Paul's Primary School, Prescot as it celebrates one of its most successful years ever.

The school has undergone a massive transformation over the past few years, with the redevelopment of much of the old school building including extensions to the administrative area, and the completion of a purpose-built Day Nursery alongside the school’s refurbished Foundation Stage.

Eddie O’Hara unveiled a commemorative plaque inside the new extension, and also enjoyed a tour of the school, which has recently been judged as “outstanding in all areas” by Ofsted.

A number of the school’s pupils enjoyed a question and answer session with Mr. O’Hara, discussing his role as an MP and talking to him about the work that they were doing in class.

Neil Dixon, headteacher at St Mary’s and St Paul’s, commented: “I was really proud of the children – they’re wonderful ambassadors for our school. Together, we’ve had a fantastic couple of years. The school is a beautiful place for the children to come to now, and things like our Ofsted success and recent Silver Artsmark Award are the icing on the cake.”

Cllr Graham Wright, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services, said: “Everyone has worked hard to ensure that St. Mary and St. Paul's Primary School has improved over the past few years and the benefits are clear for all to see.
The refurbishment and new extension of the school will help these fantastic achievements continue and provide children with an outstanding place to learn”.
