Ain't no stopping these youngsters

Date: 11 August

The choir is made up of pupils from all of the secondary schools throughout   Knowsley. The record is being used as an ‘anthem for change’ to launch the advertising campaign for the Centres for Learning in the borough. The Knowsley Singers will perform at events throughout the summer, including the Celebration of Achievement Awards at the Liverpool Philharmonic, in October.

The advertising campaign is part of a partnership with Radio City which was launched on the station in May and includes interviews with pupils, parents, staff and members of the community who are all involved in the Future Schooling in Knowsley programme.
The recording of the “anthem for change” has been posted on youtube and to date has received over 300 hits, putting it above U.S presidential candidate, Barak Obama with his “anthem for change” campaign.

Cllr Graham Wright, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Children & Family Services, said:

“Aint No Stopping Us Now’ is about getting young people inspired about the future of schooling in Knowsley. It reflects our ambition as a council to raise educational aspirations and achievement in the borough.”

Knowsley Council has secured £150 million in government funding, to become one of the first boroughs in the country to introduce seven ground-breaking centres for learning, to replace all eleven secondary schools in the area. Construction has already begun on many of the sites. The first centre for learning, North Huyton Joint Faith, is due to open in January 2009 next to the existing St Edmund of Canterbury School.
