Caring for others

At home

Looking after someone can be tough enough if you’re an adult.  But if you are a teenager, you may feel that you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders if you have to juggle your home life with school, homework and looking after others as well as yourself.

Don’t feel guilty if you can’t take everything on – you still have a right to be a teenager and do normal ‘teenage’ stuff.

If you look after someone in your family, perhaps an ill or disabled parent, brother or sister, you should make sure that you get the help which is available to you so you can still enjoy being a teenager.

What help is available?

You may be surprised to know that there are loads of children and young people who are young carers, from all over the UK. In Knowsley, the young carers project supports young carers and their families who live in Knowsley.  This may include help with school, health checks, trips out or just someone to talk to.

If you are a young carer and would like some help and advice call 0151 443 5786 or visit the website www.knowsleyyoungcarers.co.uk/.
