Stay safe road safety contentWe all get distracted from time to time - texting friends on mobile phones and listening to our iPods – so it’s easy to forget about keeping yourself safe, particularly when it comes to road safety.

Traffic is the biggest single cause of accidental death for 12 to 16 year olds and 62 per cent of teens admit to being distracted by talking to friends as they cross the road.*

As a pedestrian

Think about what you are doing when you reach the kerb. Be aware of what is around you, particularly if you are listening to music or on your mobile. You can’t rely on drivers to stop suddenly, particularly if they are travelling at speed.

As a passenger

Belt up! Whether you’re sitting in the front or back of a car, wear a seatbelt. If you don’t think it’s cool to wear a seatbelt, take a look at the Think seatbelt crash simulator site, which highlights the risks involved in not wearing a seatbelt.

Find out more about the regulations for wearing seatbelts in all vehicle types on the THINK website.
