Knowsley Children and Young People's Services

At home childrens homes contentIt is important that you are provided with the best possible care, and sometimes this may mean spending time apart from your family if you are not being looked after properly at home.

This may be due to parents being unwell, family issues or if you are in the care of the local authority or a court order.

Children’s homes make sure that your needs are met and allow you to grow, develop and provide a safe environment.

You will have a care plan, which explains what will happen while you are living away from home and what will happen at the end of your stay.

What happens when I reach 16 and have to leave care?

If you are over 16 and not planning to return home to your parents, you will be provided with a personal advisor who will ensure that you have appropriate accommodation as well as advising you on financial matters, education and health.

Advisors will also remain in contact with you until the age of 21 (or 24 if you are in full time education) and review your personal plans regularly. You also have the right to participate and have a say in what happens with your personal care plans.
