Toddler behaviour
We’ve all heard of the terrible twos… and threes and fours. Most of the time, your child is well behaved and practices the good manners that you have taught them. But every parent knows what it’s like to experience the tears and the tantrums. As toddlers grow and develop, they learn who they are and have more understanding about what they want and don’t want.
Diversion tactics
Quite often, our children kick up a fuss because they are bored. Keeping them active and involved can help. Classic behaviour can include:
- Trouble getting dressed – make it fun and more appealing. Let them pick out their own clothes to make it feel like they’re making the decision.
- Going to the shops – give them a job to do so they are not just being dragged around. Ask them to see if they can help you find certain items. Be creative and draw the items for them to look out for before you go.
- Getting in the way of housework – let them help you. Give them a small dustpan and brush and involve them. It also teaches them good habits.
Toddler behaviour isn’t just about bad behaviour. Shyness, anxiety and a need for comfort objects such as security blankets are all elements of toddler behaviour.
