Sleeping habits
Toddlers are always on the go because they want to learn new things and sleep is the last thing they want to be doing. It’s important that they get their rest and the best way to do this is to get them into a routine. Fill your child’s day so that they will feel tired and want to sleep and then try the quiet time routine:
- Bath
- Story
- Settle them down to sleep
If they are not asleep when you leave the room, just leave them to it. As long as your child is not distressed, they will nod off eventually. Dim the lights as this creates a calm atmosphere and they will learn to associate this with bedtime.
Having a routine is the key to your child getting into better sleeping habits. Although it might take time for a routine to take effect, the effort is worth it because it allows you to have your evenings to yourself so you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
