What to take to hospital

Pregnancy - hospitalWhether you are having a home birth or going to hospital, make sure you pack your essential items about two weeks before you are due to give birth.
 

Items for baby

  • sleepsuits and nappies
  • baby toiletries (some hospitals provide these)
  • socks or booties
  • a hat
  • scratch mittens
  • a going-home outfit
  • a blanket
  • a car seat

Items for mum 

  • nightdress, gown and slippers
  • sanitary towels
  • bath towel
  • nursing bra and breast pads
  • underwear
  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, lotion, hairbrush, makeup)
  • book, magazines or music
  • address book and lots of change to call family and friends to tell them the good news
  • a going home outfit
  • snacks

Items for dad or birthing partner 

  • a camera
  • basic toiletries to freshen up
  • a change of clothes
  • snacks
 
Don’t bring jewellery, cash credit cards or any other valuables.
