What to take to hospital
Whether you are having a home birth or going to hospital, make sure you pack your essential items about two weeks before you are due to give birth.Items for baby
- sleepsuits and nappies
- baby toiletries (some hospitals provide these)
- socks or booties
- a hat
- scratch mittens
- a going-home outfit
- a blanket
- a car seat
Items for mum
- nightdress, gown and slippers
- sanitary towels
- bath towel
- nursing bra and breast pads
- underwear
- toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, lotion, hairbrush, makeup)
- book, magazines or music
- address book and lots of change to call family and friends to tell them the good news
- a going home outfit
- snacks
Items for dad or birthing partner
- a camera
- basic toiletries to freshen up
- a change of clothes
- snacks
Don’t bring jewellery, cash credit cards or any other valuables.
