Creative play
Play dough
This is great for creative play. You can squeeze it, mould it, roll it, make shapes and figures and mix colours to make new colours. It can be used from two years but make sure your child doesn’t eat it.
Art and craft
Get creative with your kids. You can have lots of fun with drawing and painting or get crafty with making things using foam shapes, fluffy balls and glitter and glue.
Lego
You can now buy large Lego blocks which are safer for toddlers to use, as well as the traditional smaller Lego sets. Children can spend ages building things and knocking them down again and parents can also join in the fun.
Wooden blocks
See how high you can stack them before they topple over. Coloured blocks with letters can help your child to learn the alphabet.
Jigsaw puzzles and shape boards
If you have a toddler, you can buy puzzles with cut out holes where the shapes fit through. This teaches your child about different colours, shapes and sizes.
You can also buy shape boards where shapes of your child’s favourite characters can slot in the holes such as Postman Pat or Thomas the Tank Engine.
