Communicating
Your child learns how to communicate through you. They listen to the words you speak, tone of voice, facial expressions and gestures you use.Body language
Body language plays a significant role in how you communicate. Even when you don’t speak, your face and stance can still convey your feelings.
- Approaching your child with a softer looking face rather than a frown or grimace will make your child more responsive.
- When talking to your child, make sure you are on the same level as them by crouching down, rather than standing over them which can be intimidating.
Listen to them
It’s important that you take time out to listen to your child and spend quality time with them. Stop what you are doing and show an interest in your child and what they are doing. This will help their self-esteem.
