Having your child adopted

Adoption - having your child adoptedAdoption is a good way of giving your baby the best start in life if you feel that you are not in the right situation to raise a child. Adoption ends the legal relationship between the child and the birth parents and begins a new one with the adoptive parents.

Putting your child up for adoption is a major decision, and should not be taken lightly.  You need to be certain that you are doing the right thing for you and your baby and be 100% sure of your decision. Once granted, an adoption order is final and cannot be undone.

Before making a decision, you should find out as much information as possible.  Discuss your situation with family and friends or speak to an adoption agency or a social worker at your local council for advice. They will explain what would happen if you were to go ahead with the adoption.

The British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) also provides a wealth of information on the adoption process and will answer many questions you may have about placing your child for adoption. In particular, visit the first questions section and pregnant and thinking about adoption.
