Cycling safety

At play cyclingAs well as being a fun activity to take part in with your family and friends, cycling keeps you fit and healthy.

Always make sure that you stay safe by following these handy hints and tips:

  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Cycle with friends or family.
  • Choose well lit or busy routes and stay away from traffic.
  • Make sure your bike has lights for when it gets dark.
  • Wear reflective clothing.
  • Always tell your family which route you will be taking.
  • Make sure your bike is in safe working order and get it checked regularly.
  • If you carry a rucksack, wear it on your back strapped to two shoulders, not one.  It’s better for your back, and safer for you!

Cyclist training at schools

Knowsley’s road safety team offer cyclist training days at schools in Knowsley free of charge, so make sure you ask your teacher to organise one for your school!

Also, check out the new national cyclist training scheme that has been designed to give young cyclists the skills and confidence to ride your bikes on today’s roads. Visit www.bikeability.org.uk for more information.
