Knowsley Children and Young People's Services

Children and young people's workforce

The way we provide services for children, young people and families in Knowsley is changing. We are integrating services so that all the different agencies and organisations involved work together in a coordinated and effective way.

This is in response to The Children Act 2004, which outlined major changes to the way that public services to children and young people are to be delivered. The Government's 'Every Child Matters Change for Children' sets out a national framework for local change programmes to build services around the needs of children and young people, to maximise opportunity and minimise risk. The national Children's Workforce Strategy is part of the wider Change for Children programme which all local authorities are working towards. It sets out a vision of a children's workforce that:
  • strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for all children and young people;
  • is competent, confident and safe;
  • people aspire to be part of and develop their skills and build satisfying and rewarding careers; and
  • parents, children and young people trust and respect.
Knowsley's Change for Children programme, The Workforce Development Project, incorporates a series of projects to enable these changes to take place.

Knowsley's Workforce Development Project

Knowsley's children and young people deserve the best support we can offer so that they become confident, creative and caring citizens who will, in turn, nurture future generations.  The impact of services for children and young people is largely dependent on the quality and skills of the people who provide these services.

The project aims to gather information about the skills and competence of the workforce and identify any gaps and surpluses for future planning.  It covers everyone who works with children and young people, including paid and voluntary workers.  We are keen to engage with all groups and welcome any contacts that you could provide.
